Throwers and distance group have big day

Spotswood has a big day at Liberty Univ. Invitational.

School and meet records fell in Lynchburg as the Spotswood Track teams competed in the Liberty University Invitational vs a field of 22 Boys teams and 19 girls teams. AA, AAA and private schools competed in the 8th annual event.

Spotswood's Girls finished fourth behind big performances.

Kristin Summers won the pole vault at 9'6.25" (NEW Spotswood school record). Jennifer Showker won the Shot Put with a throw of 39'7" (a NEW Spotswood school record-3 inches short of the MEET record) and the Discus throw (NEW MEET RECORD of 127'6" -just one inch behind the Spotswood school record).

Big performances for the Blazer girls included All three of Spotswood's Relays 4x100 (Mowbray,Kite,Summers, S.Workman), 4x400m(J.Workman, Brown, Montgomery, Hannoun) and 4x800(Martin, Sacra, Lapsina and Loflin)

Individual standouts were Margie Martin-4th in the 800m at 2:36 and Jackie Workman 6th in the 400-1:05.3

Spotswood Boys finished 2nd in the meet to rival Charlottesville High School. Spotswood distance corp and throwers have big days.

Outstanding efforts were Chris Heitz's first in the 800m (2:03.12) with Mark Rinker 4th(2:05.89). Ben Knight-2nd (10:29.39) and Chris Foster-Baril-3rd (10:30.68) in the 3200, Jordan Jarrels-4th (4:39.44) and Stephen Knight-5th (4:40.25) in the 1600, Chris Smith 5th (11'11.75) in the Pole Vault, John Rose 6th (54.54) in the 400m. The Blazer relay teams 4x400(Heitz, Rinker, Rose, Swartzentruber) and 4x800(Knight, Dillenbeck, McGinn, and Cuellar) finished top 6.

Three Blazer throwers placed in the Discus top six with Brad Campbell 3rd(131' 3"), David Isenhart-5th(127' 8") and Nathan Turner-6th(126'8"). In the Shot Put Turner finished second at 45'6"and Campbell fourth at 43'5".
