The Dogwood Track Classic 2002

Valley Girl Throwers, Spotswood's 4x800 relay and Turner Ashby and Fort Defiance Vaulters

Turner Ashby and Spotswood athletes tired from a late city-county meet less than 12 hours earlier gutted it out in Charlottesville at the AAA dominated Dogwood Track Classic. Showing the Valley District's prowess in the Vault and throws, valley athletes traveled to UVA's track for a cool saturday test against strong competition.
 
Jennifer Showker lead the Girls from the valley with a second place throw of 121' 4" improving on her valley top discus throw. Clair Thomason of Fort Defiance edged Amanda Renals from Turner Ashby for 7th/8th place. Amanda Renalds placed 4th in the Shot Put with Thomason placing 6th.
 
Spotswood 4x800 relay team ran a blistering 8:21 to forge into the Valley's Top 5 leader position for a meet third place. After a City/County meet and a strong relay, Spotswood's relay team of Chris Heitz, Jordan Jarrells, Mark Rinker, Steven and Ben Knight had "character building" experiences in the open distance events.
 
Adam Wright vaulted 13'6" for a third place in the vault along with Curt Huffman of Fort placing 10th.
