To become certified, there are very important things you have to do. In the following list, I will also include internet addresses, just in case you can get access. Complete
your rules review form for your level of certification. We have
included the appropriate open book review for your certification
level. According to the review, you will need to reference the
latest version of various rule books. You will need to eventually send
the answer sheets to us. Please notify me immediately if you also need a specialty rules review, and I will send that one to you.
Reviews can be found at http://www.usatfofficials.com/certification.html
Rule books can be found at http://www.usatfofficials.com/rules.html
A blank resume form at this link is included for you to fill in your officiating experience during the past 4 years.
Here is the actual form you will use to register for the USATF.
The
“2009-2012 Certification Application and Database Form” is
included. There are instructions on the back of the form to
assist you. Please write legibly and remember to sign it at the
bottom. Keep in mind that your overall certification level is the
highest of your skill levels, and that you may have skill(s) on any or
all of the different (lower) levels. For example, a National
level official may have skill(s) at the National level, and at the
Association level, but none at the Master level. We
need you to circle the appropriate A’s, N’s and M’s on steps 17-19
before sending it to us. We will still need to compare what you
are requesting against your resume.
You
must become a member of the USATF at the Virginia level. The
membership application is included. After applying, you will
receive your new 10-digit membership number that will be needed for
your certification application (“database form”).
Mailing address for the USATF-Virginia membership:
USATF Virginia
8010 Cameron Rd
Richmond, VA 23229
We
strongly encourage you to do the easiest and quickest way by using a
credit card on the internet at
https://www.usatf.org/membership/application/ .
This way will give you your 10-digit membership number
immediately. The mail will take quite a while,
You must attend a USATF-sponsored training clinic. Further information may be found on this website. Bill
Anderson or McCann will be at the training sessions to discuss
certification. We will have copies of all forms, if you still
need them. We will also be working directly with new officials,
and will be taking close-up digital pictures for your badges.
When all is done, mail your answer sheet(s) “database form”, your resume, and
a check for $20 made out to "USATF" to
either Chris McCann (if you are a New or an Associate official), or to
Bill Anderson (if you are a National or Master level official).
Our addresses can be found on the “database form”.
Liability Insurance: A
very important benefit of USATF membership is that all certified USATF
officials will be provided with liability insurance that covers you
during any USATF meet.
****
As always, if you have any questions or any difficulty, please do not
hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to working
with you.

The
Virginia Association of USA Track & Field is sponsoring four (4)
one day joint high school, college & USATF Track & Field
Clinics that will be in convenient locations for most all VHSL Coaches
and USATF officials in Virginia.
The purposes of these clinics
are to assist VHSL Coaches and USATF & VHSL Officials in the proper
conduct of High School, Intercollegiate, and USATF Association
track & field competition for the 2010 season in a fair and
consistent manner. The classes will stress the fundamentals of track
officiating, rules changes from all three rules books, national
mechanics, points of emphasis, and tips of the trade.
The selected clinic dates and locations for the 2010 clinics are as
