Pehr Lodhammar visited Harrisonburg in the spring of 2011, to give a seminar on his demining work with GIHCD. The webpage editor (Joe Rudmin) took him on a run that included parts of the Mountain Valley 10 Miler route.

Hi Joe,

I hope all is well with you. Just wanted to check in and say hi. I did the X-trail in the French alps six weeks ago. 58km of running through the alps with a 4400m positive climb sometimes on trails and sometimes on no trails but on snow and thorough the terrain. It was fun, hard and lots of work. Managed to do the last 5km just under 23min after 53km of running. Attached is a pic from the event where I am just crossing one of the 2650m peaks we had to get over after 42km. I am now planning for a 100 miles endurance run in Sweden in April.

Take care, keep up the running and all the best,
Pehr

Hi Joe,

No problems with using the picture. If you do, please send me a link to the webpage. If you want to you can post it with this link to a YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltu_w3cLnU0) giving a brief feel for the race this year and the challenges involved. I was fine afterwards but didn’t rest enough, started running again already the day after and now have an ankle that is a bit sour. I guess it takes about 2 full months to recover fully. I am only running three days a week now but cycle about eight times and also do weights four or five times per week.

The ski poles are for the really steep passages (basically the first 20k was uphill) and also to keep balance when passing some ridges with very long drops on each side. The guy who took the picture was one of the X-trail staff. If you post on valleytrack.org you can also post my private e-mail (pehrlodhammar@hotmail.com) and tell the readers to get in contact with me if they are ever coming across to Geneva and I will take them running in Geneva or the Jura mountains.

All the best and warm regards,
Pehr
