The first annual Harrisonburg 10 miler and 5k Run will be a yearly event to benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children, and the JMU Track and Field Mens & Womens Programs. Initial corporate sponsors include Pfizer Chemical-Celebrex.
The 10 miler race will take participants through the JMU campus, then into "Old Town" Harrisonburg, to the west side past the Recreation center, through the sunset heights area, then back to the campus via Port Republic Rd. The 5k race will take runners of all skill levels along Carrier Drive and the scenic ISAT complex area. Both races will begin and end at the convocation center. Plans are being made for activities along the race routes for both participants and spectators. Commerce groups should contact race officials for details on a race presence at the convocation center or the routes.

Course: The certified 10 mile and 5k courses will take participants through rolling hills of James Madison University campus (JMU), city of Harrisonburg and local parks. The course is 100 percent paved and ends inside the JMU convocation center for the exciting finish.
Time/Place: On November 4th, 2001 participants should gather at the JMU convocation center in Harrisonburg, Virginia at least 60 minutes prior to the 1pm start time, for both races. Participants should be there 90 minutes in advance if you are registering on race day.
Directions: from the south...Interstate 81 to Harrisonburg, take port road exit, and follow the signs to the race parking at JMU convocation center. From the north...You can also reach the convocation center by taking the east 33 exit, turn right at the second light, then follow university boulevard through three lights past the entrance to ISAT complex. Awards and Amenities: For the 10 miler-awards to top over all male and female finishers include: 1st Place-$300.00, 2nd Place-$200.00, 3rd Place-$100.00. Prizes based on age groups for others.
Recognition will be given to the first 10 finishers overall and Awards to the first three finishers (men and women) in each age division. Awards ceremony inside the Convocation Center immediately following the race.
Age divisions are: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and above for both races (10 miler and 5k).
Race Details: Indoor Finish with food, drink, dressing rooms, and showers. Top race finishers will be recognized by the meet announcer as the race finishes. Awards will follow the conclusion of the race.
Packet Pickup: Pre-registrants can pick up their shirts, chips, and race numbers at JMU convocation center beginning at 9am race day. Race day registration is welcomed.
